LIFE MIBA Filler was presented at the VDI-ITAD Conference in Würzburg

During the 38th VDI-ITAD Conference, “Thermal Waste-Recycling 2026”, LIFE MIBA Filler was presented to a broad industry audience, including technical experts, decision-makers and senior management representatives from the Energy-from-Waste (EfW) industry. The annual three-day conference attracted up to 300 participants and provided a platform for presenting and discussing the latest technical developments within the sector. At the invitation of Dr.-Ing. Ragnar Warnecke, Senior Engineer and Prokurist at GKS Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Schweinfurt GmbH and President of VDI, we presented the LIFE MIBA Filler project and its progress to the wider conference audience.

The progress of the project to date was presented, together with the journey that has brought us to this point over the past 8–10 years. Building on the knowledge and insights gained during this period, and more recently with the support of EU LIFE, we were able to construct a demonstration plant that has significantly advanced our learning and understanding of the technology.

Over the course of a full year, we tested the pozzolanic filler produced from IBA at the production facility of our concrete tile and paver manufacturing partner in the Netherlands. The results have demonstrated that, at the current stage of development, up to 35% of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) can be replaced without any negative impact on product performance.

Further improvements to both the product and the production process are still possible and are currently being investigated. Therefore, the product has not yet reached the full limits of its performance potential.

Nevertheless, we have now demonstrated that the technology works and is available. We have reached the point where a decision on the next step needs to be made.

At Blue Phoenix we transform waste into recovered and recycled resources, supporting more circular construction methods. Our mission is to make the world see resources where it once saw waste, to shift mindsets through action. By making the potential of recovered and recycled resources visible, we help shift the way people think and act. Because real change starts with seeing waste not as the end, but as the beginning of something new. Resources Reborn.
